The Charity Engine supports global charities, but I have also supported the British Heart Foundation, St Catherine's Hospital, Trinity Hospice, The Orwell Society and SCOPE. I also regularly buy the Big Issue in the UK.
I help out on the Dorset Lavender Farm Project, a 'care farm' primarily to help people with learning difficulties make the transition between school and adult/working life. Our aim is to become self-sustaining through the sale of lavender and lavender products. My main task, at the moment, is to look after the farm's honey bee colony. As there's nowhere near enough lavender for them yet they're busy with the oil seed rape in a nearby field. Staying ahead of their needs is quite a challenge now that we're having some decent weather.I also get involved in maintenance and improvements such as repairing guttering on the farm buildings and, eventually, adding water diverters so we can recycle rainwater.I also have a still to build :)Calm down - it's for distilling essential oils out of some of the lavender crop!
My partner volunteers for Arthritis Care, doing information stands and fundraising at a lot of local events, and for Oxfam at one of their shops; we support Guide Dogs (and have two, one retired, in the family); and I'm trustee of the local Community Association. We've supported a lot in different ways over the years - and giving time and effort is just as valuable as cash, if not more so!
Awesome. Since moving to Dorset I've wanted to help out with socialising puppies ready for assistance or guide dog work. Sadly, my partner believes she'll become too attached and will find it too difficult to let go once they're ready for their training so we'd best leave well alone. Admittedly, I'd find it very difficult too, but would be able to let go knowing that they're going on to do very valuable work. Giving a retired guide dog a home may be an option.
I tend to go with whatever the company I am working for is doing and try to help stimulate ideas inside a body that all ready has an audience and the platform to gain interest. As a result I have no way of showing this extensive list. I was hoping that Facebook might build a little app.
I help run out local talking newspaper for the blind. I am a recording technician, I am teaching others, I coordinate the reading teams and often stand in as a news reader or compiler.
I am also part of Rotaract (NOT Rotary) and am the UK internet officer, I am also president of my local and very small club trying to get it off the ground again.
I help out at our local nature reserve and have also volunteered to help the bedford and milton keynes water ways with draughting for their first boat and will probably help run the boat too once it arrives.

Sounds like a great project - especially the lavender moonshine...! ;)
Sadly it's not for drinking. I am growing a lot of potatoes though. Once I've built the still it needs testing. ;)

Very true. All the money in the world can't do any good without people - and time is the greatest gift a person can give.
(and computing time, obviously!)

I volunteer for an OLPC project in kenya delivering low cost low power laptops to students in rural schools.
I'm a big fan of OLPC. Teach someone to fish, as the saying goes - and the Internet can teach everyone everything.
I have just joined The Orwell Society. A very worthy charity to further promote the works of George Orwell.
Avaaz, All-Out, Amnesty Int, Sea Shepherd, Shelter and St Tiggywinkles are my pet causes. Oh and hello Mark.
