No Income-Generating Projects?

Why is MalariaControl.net the only project that has executed on my computer for more than a month? Does this mean that CE no longer has any income-generating projects?

We have a couple revenue generating apps at present -- But maybe you are a Mac user?  (*Unfortunately, these apps are Windows and Linux only at the moment.)

No, I'm a Linux user. So how come I'm not seeing them?

Maybe you should apply to do beta testing and get WUs for your computer.

Here's the link to change the setting: http://www.charityengine.com/account/settings

Also make sure that in BOINC you have set Charity Engine to allow new work.

My profile was already set to allow Beta Testing. Not sure how to set CE to allow new work. From the run-manager somehow? Or?

Yes, in the boinc manager in the project tabs.

there must be a place on the left when you select Charity engine to allow new work.

Can you post a log of boinc, maybe there is something there that could help us figure it out. There might be a dependancy lacking or something like this. what version of linux are you running? Ubuntu?

I'm running Xubuntu 12:04.3 with boinc_7.2.33_x86_64 (downloaded from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php).

There is a "Projects" tab, with buttons for "Update", "Suspend", "No new tasks", "Reset project", "Remove" and "Properties" .. all greyed-out.

The only log files seem to be: time_stats_log, job_log_www.malariacontrol.net.txt and  job_log_work.charityengine.com.txt

if you can see "No New Tasks" while Charity Engine is selected, then it's fine.

Can you copy and paste the event log?

Look for it under the advanced menu.

Copy it here, it might be long. If it's too long, just create a text file and upload it somewhere and paste the link so we can access it.

I don't know much about Xubuntu, I'll have a look and see if there is something messing with boinc.

Interesting .. it says I'm actually using version 7.2.28; probably need to actually install the update.  Do you see anything else here?

Yes, you can probably do the update.

Also, you are running WUs that are bringing income to the project.

"Tue 07 Jan 2014 10:17:47 AM EST | Charity Engine | Restarting task wu_1388753102_36578_0 using ce-5 version 100 in slot 0
Tue 07 Jan 2014 10:17:47 AM EST | Charity Engine | Restarting task wu_1388753102_36902_0 using ce-5 version 100 in slot 1"

2 CPU WUs are running on your computer (CE-5). These bring an income to Charity Engine!

Anything else I can do for you ?

Thanks.  I thought that ce-5 was just a wrapper for other projects.

I guess I have another question: Is there a way of upgrading my existing BOINC installation without overwriting the data currently in the directory?

At least you are earning points with Malaria and still helping charity.

Maybe the project admins will be able to do something for mac soon.

As for CE-5 it is a task that brings a little income to the project. Any task done under the Charity engine project does.

Erik -- Unfortunately, none of the current CE commercial projects (CE3 and CE5) have work for Mac at the moment.  This is why you only get Malaria work.  But that Malaria work still generates prize entries.

Graham -- you should be able to update your desktop software without impact on your account or work in progress. Just download the lastest CE installer (or BOINC installer); and it should detect you are in an upgrade scenario and act approporately.

Yup, that worked; thanks Matt!
