Greetings!

Any ideas as to when VirtualBox might be supported?

Thanks,

Ed

Hi Rod.  We've got a new version of our desktop app in limited (but growing) circulation.  It has virtualbox support.  Hope to have it as the default version by early next week.  Will post back when it's ready.

(*In the meantime, you can ignore the "VirtualBox is not installed" error: it only means that your device won't get work that requres VirtualBox; but you should get other work instead.)

Doc and Rod, the new version of the desktop app with VirtualBox support is now available. You should be able to just go to your dashboard page here and click the "Add Computer" link in order to download it!

(Note that this currently is limited to 64-bit Windows systems).

We'll likely push out an upgrade notice soon, so you can also wait for that to pop up on your desktop. Thanks for your interest in this new feature -- and your patience!

I got it and it's installed and running.

Thanks!

By other side, when we can hear some about jackpoting?

Nice, thanks for the update, Rod.

As for the jackpot, we have some unexpected GDPR complications (not a matter of privacy, just a matter of pulling in all of the data from research partners), so need to make some adjustments. We're working through it and should have it going again in a few days.

Any project@home I choose will don't change my computing settings, right?

Rod, you can choose any project you want via the "attach to projects" wizard in your desktop client.  But: any projects you attach to this way (ie manually) will not earn you jackpot credits.  (*The "resource share" setting for each project allows you to balance your computing priorities.)

Hey Guys,

Quick question: which version of CE is the 64bit version spoken of above?

I am currently running 7.6.33 (x64)

Is that the most current version?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed -- yes, you have the most current version.

Hi,

I still get the notification that virtualbox is not installed. How can I stop that happening? Also, when doing the ce11 task my computer gets stuck in the 90% area. Taking hours over 0.1%. Thought the two might be related?

CE11 is, by design, a long-running app which generally uses very little CPU. - So this is expected behavior.

Re: VirtualBox: What OS and what version of our desktop software are you running?

Hello, I also  get the message "virtualbox is not installed". How can I install it?

Karsten, Geert --

Usually this is installed with the CE desktop app.

But you can just go to:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

and then download and run the OS-specific installer

Let us know if this resolves your issue --

@Matt: I simply installed it. Now I don't see the error message any more, so it seems to work. But I do not get tasks anyhow (perhaps because I have an AMD CPU?) so I am not sure.

Thanks, Karsten.  Presently only a subset of work uses VBox -- though we expect this proportion to be increasing in  coming months.
